Let’s say you are a new writer, working on your first book. You’ve managed to complete a rough draft, but you have no idea where to go from there—how to take that rough draft and turn it into a publishable book. You’ve been thinking about hiring an editor, but after talking to a couple, you realize you can’t possibly afford a complete edit of the entire book. What to do?
One option is my Big Picture Manuscript Analysis, described in detail elsewhere on this site. Another option is my new Just One Chapter editing service. This entails, quite simply, my taking a single chapter of your book and giving it the same detailed edit I would give to the entire book. After completing the edit, I’ll have a brief conversation with you, either over the phone or online, to suggest next steps. You will see just what a detailed edit actually looks like, on the page, and you’ll get a better insight into your strengths and weaknesses as a writer. And the cost will be comparatively reasonable.
The Just One Chapter edit can be used either on its own or in combination with a Big Picture Manuscript Analysis. I recommend the latter, as a way of covering most of the bases. The service is also fairly quick. Normally I’ll be able to complete the single-chapter edit within a few days.
Hourly rates, with a minimum fee of $100. If you’re using Just One Chapter in combination with the Big Picture Manuscript Analysis, I’ll give you 15% off my normal rate for the single-chapter edit. Please contact me to discuss your requirements.
