For progressives, settling for half a loaf seemed to work–for a while. But then half a loaf became a quarter of a loaf, and a quarter of a loaf became a few slices, and then the slices became crumbs. And now, progressives are grovelling for those crumbs, shamelessly abasing themselves when they should be demanding what is their rightful share of their political inheritance. This hasn’t worked, and it won’t work. Time for progressives to break out a new playbook–one which looks a lot more like the 1930s and 1940s and a lot less like post-9/11.
