Robinson Crusoe is entertaining reading, but it can hardly be considered a useful guide for life. Those who try to do everything, from making and repairing their own clothing to growing their own food and dealing with their computers’ electronic ailments, are apt to wind up doing nothing very well. Intelligent specialization is the only way to go, particularly in a word as complex and rapidly-changing as ours.
