The mindless libertarianism that has come to dominate the political scene over the past four to five decades has made it virtually impossible to achieve social consensus on any issue, from climate change to criminal justice and strategies for dealing with COVID. With few exceptions–Quebec’s Premier Legault being one–public officials have become wary or even downright afraid of forcing people to do things they don’t want to do. The results are all too clear, in the chaos that is modern society. From her sorry pauper’s grave, Ayn Rand is creaming her filthy, booze-stained jeans. Her way appears to have triumphed after all.
