I’m much prouder of my mid-life and post-retirement achievements in writing, theatre, and music than of all the degrees I earned early on. I was bred like a racehorse for academic achievement. It would have been surprising if I hadn’t earned several degrees. But my books, stage appearances, and musical performances have been entirely the result of my own efforts. At an age when many people are giving up activities they pursued earlier, I’ve been taking up new things. This is what I’m proudest of.
