Seems that everyone is labouring on Labour Day, from the moving company bringing my things from Nova Scotia to the woman who is cleaning my new house. Even some professors are teaching classes today. Whatever happened to the parades, the barbecues, the baseball games–to the last holiday of summer? And whatever happened to the role that working people and unions play in the larger society?
